it's l,ike the trailing loss is not working on mt4 or is me that don't use it well?
i believe as d profit moves in my favor,it should lock in my profit, and move the loss up,but i don't see that happen, unless i close d trade my self, which is making me to look like a newbie
also,i;ll likt o know if order modifying will lock current profit or not.
    thanks.

    Hi,

when u want use trailing stop, u need to have SL, mean if u use 20 point trailing stop, the SL will move to 20 point every time market move more than 20 point till reach T/P or hit u SL back or closed manually.

i will give an example, Have 2 trailing stop
1- automatically trailing stop- profit n lost
    - normally trader use this when they dont have time or they trade long term trade.
2- manually trailing stop. normally profit
    - using by trader who need to lock profit at least 10 or more and also to make sure their trade make profit 1st before using auto trailing stop then let profit run by using auto trailing stop

    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Trailing stop automatically
    Profit situation

    selling euro/usd

    at bid price : 1.5820,
    u SL are : 1.5850, trailing stop : 20
    target price (T/P) - 1.5740

market price now moving down, ask price at 1.5799,
when price move to that price u trailing stop will move into 1.5830
then market price for ask move to 1.5779,
when price move to that price u trailing stop will move into 1.5810
then market price for ask move to 1.5749,
when price move to that price u trailing stop will move into 1.5790

the order will closed 3 situation here
    - hit u Target Price at 1.5740
    - market going up again n hit at new SL (already move at 1.5790)
    - u closed manually

    ------------------------------------

    Lost situation

    selling euro/usd

    at bid price : 1.5820,
    u SL are : 1.5850, trailing stop : 20
    target price (T/P) - 1.5740

market price now moving down, ask price at 1.5799,
when price move to that price u trailing stop will move into 1.5830
but after a few minutes later market price going up back to 1.5830 ask price

u position/trade closed with -10 lost. so u trailing stop minimize u lost.

    ----------------------------------------------

so when u use trailing stop, important need to know,
    - u need to set SL, if u dont set SL, u trailing stop will not work because trailing stop will start from SL.
    - u need to set how many points trailing stop will use.
    - trailing stop start from SL - if u set 15 point, after market move at u profit direction, u SL will move 15 point.
    - sometimes u can lost or profit when using trailing stop, that why how important how many point trailing stop u want to use. someone use 40 point as trailing stop, same exactly with their SL 40 pips, because when price move more than 40 point from their open price, SL will move to open price then lock at 0 profit.

    --------------------------

    Manual trailing stop

Trailing stop also can do it manually, but this need u to watch the movement. If the current price already move to u side/profit, just move u SL where u want to lock profit, let says

    open price sell at 1.5815
    current ask price at 1.5795
u can now lock, n put SL at 1.5805. remember u need to put 10 point different from market price. or look at spread bid n ask price. (this one i will explain later).

after that u can use auto trailing stop to get profit more or hit u TP. so now u already have profit in u hand unless market have gap*.

    Thanks

    * Gap situation
Gaps can happen in news trading and you will likely be filled at the nearest available price on the market if the gap is greater than 15 pips. Read your trading agreement. It is all explained in there. This information can be found with any broker's trade agreement. However, if you have a complaint, please send it to [email protected] and they will look at your problem and act accordingly. If the broker is at fault, you will be refunded.
