Install MT4 in Linux OS

There is a lot of interest out there in running Metatrader 4 on the Linux platform, however until Metaquotes does a native Linux version, the only option if you want to do it is to run it under WINE emulation.

What follows is a step by step guide to installing MT4 in Linux. I have used the excellent Ubuntu distribution for this task.

1) Install WINE if it's not already installed. I used version 0.9.33. Please refer to The Ubuntu Wiki for advanced WINE setup instructions.

2) From a valid windows installation, copy over all the fonts into your wine installation. It assumes you told Ubuntu to mount your windows partition in /windows.

cp /windows/WINDOWS/Fonts/* ~/.wine/c/windows/fonts/

3) Copy 2 needed DLL files from your valid windows installation.

Code:

cp /windows/WINDOWS/system32/mfc4* ~/.wine/c/windows/system32/
cp /windows/WINDOWS/system32/msvcp60.dll ~/.wine/c/windows/system32/

4) Download mt4setup from FXOpen

5) Install MT4.

wine mt4setup.exe

6) You should now have an icon on your Desktop and a working install of MT4 under Linux!

* Please note, in order to set a limit/stop order without an invalid parameters error you need just to remove the expiry (Uncheck the box under the entry price).

It is possible but depends on couple of things :

1) correct wine installation
2) installed packages on your linux platform
3) and linux itself

I've installed MT4 on Fedora Core but sth was wrong with fonts and MT4 crashed

You know... the devil sticks in details sm_upset

Did you set up wine correctly? Try reinstalling it and mt4. Maybe something is corrupted along the way.

MT4 under linux .. to change variable in indicator/ea ... need to use F2 .. double-click won't do ...

That's right. Already added that caveat to my forum post.

How is it going for you? I trust you are finding linux to be a a much less annoying environment for everyday needs

I think the meta trader 4 platform would be comfortable for me on window 7 or any of the window old operating system.. but metatrader platform 4 platform .. I think that would be cumbersome to work on the system Linux

I have run mt4 on ubuntu linux wine first install wine you use windows xp setup in wine add the file I have attached MFC42.dill to wine./c:/windows/sytem32 to install .mt4 on ubuntu 9.04 use the right click on the mt4 downloaded file and use run with wine.On 10.04 if it wont install then you need a preinstalled mt4 and run it the mt4 directory by opening the directory and right click onr terminal.exe run with wine
