Discouraging Spammers

Spammers signup and quickly send spam to thousands of people on the same day. This can be discouraged by limiting the number of private messages sent by a new member to just under 5 per day for a year. (And perhaps increase the limit by a few more, upon special request).

Spammers work through statistics. If they send a million spam messages, and 5 of them end up falling into their trap, they make their profit. Hence, limiting their ability to send private messages or emails through fxopen will more or less end their free run here. Thanks for listening.

i would like to add to this. Everyday I am receiving an email message of a "new post" from a popular thread only to find out that they are selling some fx course or prescription medicine.

- Maybe there needs to be captcha or something on the forum for new users

- Perhaps approve the first 5 messages a user sends before it is posted?

Your forum is the only popular forum I see with this problem.

The upgrades did help a lot. Over the weekend the moderation team spent hours cleaning forums and it is a relief to have the spam stop.
